Credit Where It is Due

I like to make photographs, and I enjoy being praised for what I have done. But God teaches a different attitude, one of thankfulness and humility. He pointed that out to me recently. I DO NOT MAKE THESE PHOTOGRAPHS ALONE. I didn't create the light, or the technology which makes photography possible. I didn't buy my camera, it was a gift from my husband. I didn't give myself the ability to see through the camera in order to make an image which others find pleasing. It is right to use what I have been given to the best of my ability, but it is wrong to take credit for what I have not done. God made the light, the elements which are used to manufacture the camera, and the world from which these images come. He has given me gifts: people to teach me, eyes to see with, and a brain to process information. I am thankful for these gifts. He deserves all the praise, not I.

Gateway

Last Tuesday was a nice day, and I had a little free time. I hope you enjoy this straight from the camera shot. The view is through a gate to a local cemetery, looking across a river. The plume of smoke behind the near ridge line is from a brush pile; now is the time many people are cleaning up before the snow flies.

For more pictures of the sky, visit Skywatch Friday and Looking at the Sky on Friday. For more reflections, visit Newtown Area Photo, and check out Shadow Shot Sunday for more shadows.

Nice. I miss the days when I was able to be as meditative and reflective. Life seems much busier nowadays. I should make time to for this kind of quiet time again ...

Interesting shot! The graduated iron fence posts seem to point to different things in the picture beyond. . . it makes the water and mountain scene even more interesting.

In some ways this picture reminded me of France. Maybe it was the lilies of the fence.

These cast iron posts look lovely against the beautiful Gem State sky. The water is great, too. Excellent and artistic capture!

This makes a really interesting composition. The smoke in the distance looks intriguing too.

The rigid verticals of the gate against the soft contours of nature work well. Nicely done.

simply beautifully captured shot...lovely!

Very nice. The gate makes definitively the picture.

The delicate outline of both the mountain and the smoke plume is in contrast with the definite and strong outline of the cemetery gate. Nicely composed.

Oooh, wonderful place, subtle reflection!

I love the smell of burning leaves - though we aren't allowed to do that anymore, sigh.
The vertical gate posts make this look almost like a tryptic (plus one).

I think this photo is outstanding. I love the different things that catch my eye. The rising spears in the forground, the birds on the water, the mountains, trees and smoke. Then the reflection. Great picture!

Whenever I hear "before the snow flies" I think of the classic western "Shane" :)
