Here in northern Idaho two varieties of wild orchid may be found.
This one is a Fairy Slipper.
The whole plant is about 4 inches tall, so they are easy to miss.
I was pleased to find several of them growing near the route of my favorite walk last week,
And even more pleased that I was able to make a good capture!
The flower is a lovely orchid purple, but I also like it in black and white.

The bark on that wood makes really attractive patterns - a great background. I went over to see the colour version, and WOW! What a beautiful flower!
I am drawn to the swirls in the background. I think it is a perfect complement to the orchid.
We are always searching for these type little orchids when we are out hiking. Sometimes we are lucky, but most of the time we miss them. This shot is great. It really shows the viewer what the bloom looks like. The macro really helped. Love it.
