Credit Where It Is Due

Credit Where It is Due

I like to make photographs, and I enjoy being praised for what I have done. But God teaches a different attitude, one of thankfulness and humility. He pointed that out to me recently. I DO NOT MAKE THESE PHOTOGRAPHS ALONE. I didn't create the light, or the technology which makes photography possible. I didn't buy my camera, it was a gift from my husband. I didn't give myself the ability to see through the camera in order to make an image which others find pleasing. It is right to use what I have been given to the best of my ability, but it is wrong to take credit for what I have not done. God made the light, the elements which are used to manufacture the camera, and the world from which these images come. He has given me gifts: people to teach me, eyes to see with, and a brain to process information. I am thankful for these gifts. He deserves all the praise, not I.

F is for Fishing

My husband and I like to fish. Behind Libby Dam in Montana is a long, narrow lake called Koocanusa. It's full of fish. We try to catch a species of land-locked salmon called kokanee. We like to eat them. Yum!

These kokanee are not very big but they are very hungry, which makes them fairly easy to hook. However, they are not above stealing your bait and leaving the (empty) hook behind! They may fight when you reel them in, or you might not know they're on the hook until you reel it in.

It's fun trolling around the lake. You can catch something unexpected--like your spouse's line! Or a thunderstorm (I love thunderstorms, as I have said before!) will build up making it prudent to get off the water.

Sometimes the wind pushes the boat around and you have to work to get anywhere. Other times it can be perfectly still. In a few hours the weather might change several times!

When our time on the lake is done, we bring our catch home. My husband likes to smoke some of them. Then, whatever we don't eat right away I either freeze or can.

Fishing is fun!

Great post and shots! Brought back lots of memories as I lived in Montana for sixteen years. The salmon almost made me drool -- my favorite!

Enjoy!

As you can tell from recents posts my husband and I like to fish, too. I am not much on camping, and prefer a little more shelter so we rent a cabin, in our rural area called a resort.

How lucky to be where you can catch salmon, very healthy for you, especially grilled or smoked.

We have nice rainbow and brown trout in the White River below Bull Shoals Dam. I used to can them with a BBQ sauce which made them taste very much like smoked salmon. I liked canning as it made bones soft. I choke easily due to asthma so avoid anything not filleted unless it is canned. Some people catch and can carp out of the lake. I pass on that.
