Credit Where It Is Due

Credit Where It is Due

I like to make photographs, and I enjoy being praised for what I have done. But God teaches a different attitude, one of thankfulness and humility. He pointed that out to me recently. I DO NOT MAKE THESE PHOTOGRAPHS ALONE. I didn't create the light, or the technology which makes photography possible. I didn't buy my camera, it was a gift from my husband. I didn't give myself the ability to see through the camera in order to make an image which others find pleasing. It is right to use what I have been given to the best of my ability, but it is wrong to take credit for what I have not done. God made the light, the elements which are used to manufacture the camera, and the world from which these images come. He has given me gifts: people to teach me, eyes to see with, and a brain to process information. I am thankful for these gifts. He deserves all the praise, not I.

Mellow Macro Shadows

A friend has an office in a building with an atrium for a lobby. I have posted some shots of a bench in the atrium before, but this day I was sitting on the bench, having some fun playing with the light. I was fascinated by the new leaf in the foreground of this shot. It is both curled in from the edges to the central vein and twisted in a spiral. Unfortunately, I haven't figured out how to make the camera take the close-up I want instead of the one it THINKS I want, and the leaf is not in focus! But I like the picture anyhow.

This shows part of a leaf of Norfolk Island Pine. I think the leaves of this plant are lovely, and their shadows on the cedar paneling add to the beauty.

Looking down farther, I noticed these trunks. The plants are not in pots, but directly in the floor of the atrium, which is very much like a patio with planting beds around it.

Turning the camera upward I enjoyed these spiky tufts reaching for the sky. Outside the glass you see a street tree in bloom, although its flowers aren't showy.

Finally a shot of a fairly large fig enjoying the sunshine. I hope everyone has a superb Shadow Shot Sunday, a magnificent Macro Monday, and a mellow (of course!) Mellow Yellow Monday!

How could any work get done in this lobby?? The subtle shadows on the paneling of the evergreens are lovely. The spikes above are shaped so much like the starbursts of the fireworks above on July 4. what a place of employ, just entering the lobby make one want to visit!

Lovely studies of plant life...I'm fascinated by the twisting of that leaf...a bit like barbed wire, only soft. Great that you found such a beautiful place to sit and study the plants/shadows...you have an eye with patience!

Very cool Shadow Shots...I'm surprised at all the tropical type plants. I guess the atrium is kind of like a green house. I'll be in your neck of the woods tomorrow. Have to take the dogs to get groomed at 9am & do my "city" running around. Send me your email and I'll send my cell ph#. : cassiejo@juno.com If we don't connect this time, we most definately should make a date sometime before I fly in January!

I just know I would never get any work done if I had a "lobby" like that one! I love the shadows of the pine tree on the cedar planks.

Happy SSS!

It must be great to work in an office with an atruim. More relaxing than the offices I have worked in.

What a lovely place to work - plants make such a difference don't they? Don't know what camera you have but if you can switch it to manual focus for close-ups that may help (I know this because I've had similar issues)! :)

We will never learn all our camera's features, even the so-called point and shoot ones, without experimenting and evaluating our efforts. You have done a great job of that.
