Credit Where It Is Due

Credit Where It is Due

I like to make photographs, and I enjoy being praised for what I have done. But God teaches a different attitude, one of thankfulness and humility. He pointed that out to me recently. I DO NOT MAKE THESE PHOTOGRAPHS ALONE. I didn't create the light, or the technology which makes photography possible. I didn't buy my camera, it was a gift from my husband. I didn't give myself the ability to see through the camera in order to make an image which others find pleasing. It is right to use what I have been given to the best of my ability, but it is wrong to take credit for what I have not done. God made the light, the elements which are used to manufacture the camera, and the world from which these images come. He has given me gifts: people to teach me, eyes to see with, and a brain to process information. I am thankful for these gifts. He deserves all the praise, not I.

Color, Light, and Leaves

I haven't been walking much recently
And my photos have been pretty boring.
But last month, I saw this patch of color.
I walked closer

And around

Blessings!

Nestling

A pair of robins made their home in a lilac bush conveniently near my home this summer. I had to be very careful about getting a photo: Mama was nervous and shy. But this nestling cooperated admirably!

Introducing My Mailbox Spider

This spider has been living here lately.

It is huge!

It hides under the mailbox a lot, but today it was on its web.

I don't know what kind of spider it is; I am not a student of creepy-crawlies. But I am impressed!

Camera Critters

Update 9 Sep 2013: I think it might be a variety of star-bellied spider, based on the pics found here:

Close Call

No automobiles or pickup trucks were harmed in the making of this photo...
Believe it or not!

Three

There are 3 sets of three that I can identify...
How many do you see?

Thistledown

One day in August,
a few years ago,
I went for a walk
Camera in tow.
I passed some thistles
With seeds downy ripe
A fine breeze tugged at
Each seed's fluffy kite.
Could I catch the dance
Of down in the breeze?
Could my fingers and
lens do it? Oh, please!
This little fairy
Danced free-what delight!
And flew on its way
Playing in the light.
Another puff came,
More fairies danced free:
They followed the first
Skipping through the trees.

Soft and Gray

I've been AWOL for quite a while...but it's spring, and my camera has found things to share.
This soft treatment works well for these soft flowers.

God's Winter Wonders

Have you ever looked, when the day is like this,
at the wonders God makes in the cold?
When the air is still and fog forms in the night,
God grows crystals of ice.

They coat needles and fronds,
which glisten in white,

Seed heads put on new clothes.

Needles wear stars,

Branches wear spikes,

God's wonders, crafted in ice.
