Credit Where It Is Due

Credit Where It is Due

I like to make photographs, and I enjoy being praised for what I have done. But God teaches a different attitude, one of thankfulness and humility. He pointed that out to me recently. I DO NOT MAKE THESE PHOTOGRAPHS ALONE. I didn't create the light, or the technology which makes photography possible. I didn't buy my camera, it was a gift from my husband. I didn't give myself the ability to see through the camera in order to make an image which others find pleasing. It is right to use what I have been given to the best of my ability, but it is wrong to take credit for what I have not done. God made the light, the elements which are used to manufacture the camera, and the world from which these images come. He has given me gifts: people to teach me, eyes to see with, and a brain to process information. I am thankful for these gifts. He deserves all the praise, not I.

How to Change a Tractor Tire

We needed to replace the large tires on our tractor this summer.
The answer to "Why?" is evident in the first frame of this collage!
After finding suitable replacement tires which we could afford--
they were in Massachusetts--
and having them shipped to us,
we called our local tire center.
The young man who came out worked very hard!
After jacking the tractor up, he first had to pump out the solution which filled the tire.
(You can see this in the second frame.)
Next, he had to break the bead, which required some serious work with a very big hammer!
(It had been a very long time since these tires were changed!)
The rest of the job was "easy:"
dismounting the old,
mounting the new,
installing the new tube,
pumping in the solution,
pressurizing with air.
But it was finally done, on both sides.
Hopefully we will not need to do this again for another very long time!

Remembering Autumn

When I have been walking this winter,
I have occasionally noticed some remnant of autumn.
The earliest of these was taken last November;
the most recent this month.

Come for a Walk with Me...

It's a beautiful day! I have some time, let's go for a walk!

The light is wonderful for photography; what neat shadows on this wall!
These maple leaves are not finished turning yet, the veins show up  well against the green.
Probably this lawn has been raked once or twice. The bench is for my friend Paulie; simple and functional.
On the other side of the same house, look! The gate is open! Isn't it a delightful shade of red?
I just love yellow leaves against a blue sky, don't you? Both colors are more lovely then.
Golden glow;
sunshine through yellow leaves!
The willow is just starting to get ready for winter, but this boat has only to be moved off the street for its nap.
A neighborhood kitty watching me watching (and photographing) her!
It's tempting to try to pet her, but let's not disturb her from her observation post.
Another open gate! Some people must have been in a hurry this morning!
I think these are tiny apples, but I'm not sure. I love the fall colors, though!
I would like to scuff through the leaves in this alley...but, no, not this time...!
This is an old tree, may it live many more years!

One more shot, and then I have to go inside.
 Thanks for coming with me!

Nature's Miniatures

This was taken September 19.
It was a sunny day after several rainy ones, and Doggy and I were enjoying the light.
These red mushrooms caught my eye, even though they were exceptionally small.
The birch limb behind them was less than two inches in diameter!

After I put the pics from that day on my computer, I found a spider.
It's in the middle, just under the curl of birch bark, can you see it?
Then just this morning, I noticed another critter, an insect!
If you follow a diagonal line up from the center of the small red mushroom,
through the large one and the spider,
you will find it.
I think it may be the spider's dinner!

So I think this picture will do for

Update: Gemma at Greyscale Territory has a meme I just discovered, and I'm contributing this pic for it also. It's called Weekend Nature; check it out, and maybe contribute something of your own!

August Rose

I took this last month. It is a bush rose which we planted some years ago.
It gets almost no care, and is still fragrant and lovely.
It is my favorite kind of rose!

Ruby Lures

Summer means fishing.
Fish are attracted by flashing light.
These attract fish.
