Credit Where It Is Due

Credit Where It is Due

I like to make photographs, and I enjoy being praised for what I have done. But God teaches a different attitude, one of thankfulness and humility. He pointed that out to me recently. I DO NOT MAKE THESE PHOTOGRAPHS ALONE. I didn't create the light, or the technology which makes photography possible. I didn't buy my camera, it was a gift from my husband. I didn't give myself the ability to see through the camera in order to make an image which others find pleasing. It is right to use what I have been given to the best of my ability, but it is wrong to take credit for what I have not done. God made the light, the elements which are used to manufacture the camera, and the world from which these images come. He has given me gifts: people to teach me, eyes to see with, and a brain to process information. I am thankful for these gifts. He deserves all the praise, not I.

Water

A short video of a stream near my home.
Please ignore the sound of the camera focusing.

Bubbles Within

Bubbles in a water drop,
or
Bubbles in an ice drop.

It was cold enough for the water to have frozen, and
I have never seen bubbles like this in a drop of liquid water, but
My experience is limited.

God's creation is amazing!

Minatare Lake, Scottsbluff County, Nebraska

I haven't updated this blog for quite a while as I've been busy with organizing a yard & estate sale instead of taking pictures.
I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer!

Picasa Meets a Waterfall

This is a small seasonal creek on our property.
I thought the subject and composition of the original image were beautiful.
BUT
Nothing was really clear, and the colors lacked pizzazz.

Well, I have been playing around with Picasa's editing tools, so I played with this.
I decided not to crop it. But I did do these things:
First, I used the saturation tool, which brought up the color some.
Then, I posterized it, adjusting for maximum colors and detail, which made it look more like a painting.
Focus issue solved.
Next, I applied what is called "Orton-ish." This tool increases contrast, "bloom," and  "brightness." I had to tone it down with the sliders to get an effect I liked.
Finally, I added the border.

This is the original.

What do you think?

Black and White Reflection

I had to take some time from everything else and share a photo.
This is a seasonal creek on our property, up on the hill.
I walk to it now and then.
I was up there with Ginger recently, and found a little water running.
This is a very small pool, but not much water is needed to make a fine reflection!

Nebraska "Lighthouse"

Near Scottsbluff, Nebraska, is man-made Minatare Lake.
Nebraska has no ocean shoreline,
but those who designed this lake chose to put in a "lighthouse."

One can enter this structure,

and climb the (very narrow) stairs,

To see the lake and the weather.

As you can see, the water was quite high when I was there.
I enjoyed our visit!

The Geese on Fry Creek

Here I am, back at my favorite spot for taking pictures.
I visit this place often!
These Canada Geese are feeding, swimming among and casting some marvelous reflections!
This is an uncropped image of the same area. There were other goose families on this inlet, also.
Soon they will start practicing for their fall migration.

I'm a Copy-Cat!

OK, I'm a copy-cat!
Two weeks ago James published a very cool upside-down reflection.
I was impressed!
A week later, I took this picture, and I think it also looks cool upside-down!

An Evening Paddle

Driving home last week
I impulsively turned down the road which goes by this place.

This kayaker,
Enjoying an evening paddle,
Caught my eye.

I had to hurry,
Opportunities like this don't last long!

Lake McDonald

I took this at Lake McDonald in Glacier National Park a long time ago,
when we were vacationing with our children.
It was taken with a Fujica SLR, but I don't remember any other details.

My husband scanned the print into his computer, and I moved it to mine recently.
I enhanced the color, increased the contrast, cleaned up a few dust spots, reduced the resolution, and this is the result.

I think it will work for Skywatch Friday and Weekend Reflections, don't you?

Remembering Autumn

When I have been walking this winter,
I have occasionally noticed some remnant of autumn.
The earliest of these was taken last November;
the most recent this month.

Autumn Reflections

Thursday was perfect for walking and photography.
I didn't need to walk far from my car to find this, but
I have other pictures that took a LITTLE more effort.
Stay tuned!
