Lake McDonald

I took this at Lake McDonald in Glacier National Park a long time ago,

when we were vacationing with our children.

It was taken with a Fujica SLR, but I don't remember any other details.

My husband scanned the print into his computer, and I moved it to mine recently. 

I enhanced the color, increased the contrast, cleaned up a few dust spots, reduced the resolution, and this is the result.

I think it will work for Skywatch Friday and Weekend Reflections, don't you?

River Reflections

Throughout our road trip, we encountered water. 

Rivers were swollen with snowmelt and rain.

Both these pictures were taken along the Flathead River in Montana.

In Montana

We are visiting our children, and have been on the road for going on two weeks. 

Our first day out, on a lunch stop in Drummond, Montana,

this cavalcade passed by. 

I had to get up from the table, go outside, and do what I normally don't:

photograph a person!

Off Interstate 90 in Montana is a little town called Drummond. Hubby and I wanted lunch, so we pulled into town and stopped at the Wagon Wheel. Nice cafe! Anyway, I looked out the window and noticed this across the road. It's called Mentzer's Used Cow Lot! After I had a good laugh I snapped this through the glass of the cafe. I think it will do well for Window Views!

Crossing the Great Divide

On Interstate 90 in Montana, traveling west, climbing up to the Continental Divide. The elevation in this first shot  is over 4000 feet above sea level.

 As you climb on this eastern side, the scene gets more rocky--the mountains create a "rain shadow."

The eastern slopes are much drier than the western, so vegetation has a hard time growing.

The elevation at the top of the pass, just east of Butte, Montana, and a reflection of yours truly hiding behind the camera!

 Heading downhill now, Butte and a meal stop in the distance. It was a long day!

F is for Fishing

My husband and I like to fish. Behind Libby Dam in Montana is a long, narrow lake called Koocanusa. It's full of fish. We try to catch a species of land-locked salmon called kokanee. We like to eat them. Yum!


These kokanee are not very big but they are very hungry, which makes them fairly easy to hook. However, they are not above stealing your bait and leaving the (empty) hook behind! They may fight when you reel them in, or you might not know they're on the hook until you reel it in.


It's fun trolling around the lake. You can catch something unexpected--like your spouse's line! Or a thunderstorm (I love thunderstorms, as I have said before!) will build up making it prudent to get off the water.


Sometimes the wind pushes the boat around and you have to work to get anywhere. Other times it can be perfectly still. In a few hours the weather might change several times!


When our time on the lake is done, we bring our catch home. My husband likes to smoke some of them. Then, whatever we don't eat right away I either freeze or can.
