Credit Where It is Due

I like to make photographs, and I enjoy being praised for what I have done. But God teaches a different attitude, one of thankfulness and humility. He pointed that out to me recently. I DO NOT MAKE THESE PHOTOGRAPHS ALONE. I didn't create the light, or the technology which makes photography possible. I didn't buy my camera, it was a gift from my husband. I didn't give myself the ability to see through the camera in order to make an image which others find pleasing. It is right to use what I have been given to the best of my ability, but it is wrong to take credit for what I have not done. God made the light, the elements which are used to manufacture the camera, and the world from which these images come. He has given me gifts: people to teach me, eyes to see with, and a brain to process information. I am thankful for these gifts. He deserves all the praise, not I.

See It Sunday: Fish

This is from my archive. I published an unedited version before,
but for the See It Sunday theme this week, which is "Fish,"
I did some cropping and cleaning.
The edit also revealed some subtle reflections, so I am submitting it for Weekend Reflections as well.

I hope everyone has a good weekend!

Watery Rainbow

This is a fish in our aquarium. The rainbow is reflected from the inside. I thought that it was a wonderful effect, and even more wonderful was that I was able to capture it! Except for reducing the size of the file, this is unedited. It is my submission for Mellow Yellow Monday, Ruby Tuesday, and Watery Wednesday. I hope everyone is having a great week!

Aquarium Fish

I don't know how this happened...I was messing around, taking pictures of the fish in our aquarium. This shot was very pink, but I could see that there was something more. I used Picasa to edit it, making a monochrome, and ended up with this negative-like image. Here is a color close-up of the same fish:

It is not good focus, I have a hard time with extreme close-ups. The fish are called Lemon Tetras.

For more wet pictures, visit Watery Wednesday.

F is for Fishing

My husband and I like to fish. Behind Libby Dam in Montana is a long, narrow lake called Koocanusa. It's full of fish. We try to catch a species of land-locked salmon called kokanee. We like to eat them. Yum!

These kokanee are not very big but they are very hungry, which makes them fairly easy to hook. However, they are not above stealing your bait and leaving the (empty) hook behind! They may fight when you reel them in, or you might not know they're on the hook until you reel it in.

It's fun trolling around the lake. You can catch something unexpected--like your spouse's line! Or a thunderstorm (I love thunderstorms, as I have said before!) will build up making it prudent to get off the water.

Sometimes the wind pushes the boat around and you have to work to get anywhere. Other times it can be perfectly still. In a few hours the weather might change several times!

When our time on the lake is done, we bring our catch home. My husband likes to smoke some of them. Then, whatever we don't eat right away I either freeze or can.

Fishing is fun!

Success!

Here they are--seven pints, all sealed and ready to be labeled and put away! It wasn't even too hard. I'll have to do this again.

Canning Fish

It's Sunday afternoon, and hot outside. Must be a good day to can fish...

I've never canned any kind of meat before. It's a little intimidating, because of the chance of dying from nasty germs. However, I have canned vegetables and fruits, I have directions that I got from a reliable online source, and I know how to use my pressure canner. I'm going for it!

Seven pints are in the canner, the pressure is stabilized, and the timing has begun. More to come, tune in later!
